Origins of One of Michigan’s Favorite Courses
During the 1920s, Colonel Edwin S. George was a wealthy industrialist, philanthropist, and golf fanatic. To him, the woods and rolling hills along Forest Lake possessed more natural beauty than he had ever seen, so he enlisted the services of William Diddel. Listed as one of the the top ten golf course designers of all time by Golf Digest, Diddel laid out 18 perfectly located holes for an ideal course. Later, Arthur Hills, world-famous golf course architect, redesigned several holes to modernize and elevate the course without losing any of its original charm.Ninety-one years after its original configuration, golfers still marvel at how the course follows the natural contours of the land and has stood the test of time as one of Michigan's finest courses. The course still reflects the same spirit and original features with signature waving, well-protected greens and natural fairways. The entire course has an ambiance of serenity and tranquility, allowing you to concentrate on your game, enjoy the company of friends, and experience the essence of the sport the way it was meant to be played.
